About Sylvia
A multicultural lens on modern psychiatric care
Born in Brazil and practicing in the United States since 2012, Sylvia founded Kind Nursing Psychiatry to bring a genuinely multicultural, unhurried style of care to Huntington Beach — treating patients not as a diagnosis to manage, but as a full person navigating a specific life, family, and culture.
The practice centers on careful diagnostic evaluation and thoughtful medication management, with particular experience in treatment-resistant depression and advanced interventions including Spravato (esketamine) therapy. Sylvia works across the lifespan, from school-age children through older adults, and sees care as a collaboration — between provider, patient, and, where helpful, family.
"Reaching out for help is already the hardest part. My job is to make everything after that feel manageable."
Advanced treatment
Spravato (esketamine) for treatment-resistant depression
For patients who haven't found relief through standard antidepressants, Spravato offers an FDA-approved, in-office treatment option — administered under direct clinical supervision, with careful monitoring before, during, and after each session.
Sylvia's training includes an advanced fellowship at Duke University in transcranial magnetic stimulation, giving her additional depth in treatment-resistant depression beyond first-line medication strategies.
Moments of care
What getting better can look like
Three moments along the way — the quiet relief of finally exhaling, the steady footing that comes with progress, and the reconnection that's usually the real goal.
Services
How care unfolds, from first visit onward
Every relationship starts with a full evaluation, then a plan that's revisited as things change — never a one-size prescription pad.
Psychiatric evaluation
A comprehensive diagnostic assessment — history, symptoms, and goals — that becomes the foundation for everything that follows.
Medication management
Ongoing, carefully monitored prescribing with regular follow-up, adjusted as your response to treatment becomes clear.
Spravato (esketamine) therapy
In-office, supervised esketamine treatment for depression that hasn't responded to standard approaches.
Telehealth & coordinated care
Secure video visits when in-person isn't practical, with coordination alongside your therapist or primary care provider.

Why people wait — and why they don't have to
If any of this sounds familiar
Hesitation before that first call is normal. Here's what's usually behind it — and what's actually true.
"I don't know if this is serious enough."
You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from an evaluation. Most people who reach out are simply trying to feel like themselves again.
"I've already tried medication and it didn't help."
That's exactly the case Spravato and advanced treatment planning are built for — when standard options haven't been enough.
"I'm worried about the cost."
The practice is in-network with most major insurers, including Medicare and Medi-Cal. Coverage is typically confirmed before your first visit.
"I don't have time for another appointment."
Many follow-up visits happen by secure telehealth — no commute, no waiting room, no missed work for a routine check-in.
Frequently asked
Good to know before your first visit
Do you accept my insurance? +
Most major plans are accepted, including Aetna, Anthem, Blue Shield, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Health Net, Medi-Cal, Medicare, Molina, Optum, and TRICARE. Contact the office to confirm your specific plan and benefits before your first visit.
What is Spravato, and who is it for? +
Spravato (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal treatment for depression that hasn't improved with standard antidepressants. It's administered in the office under direct supervision, with monitoring for a period after each dose. It isn't a first-line treatment — it's typically considered after other options have been tried.
Do you offer telehealth visits? +
Yes. Many follow-up visits can be done by secure video. Initial evaluations and Spravato sessions are conducted in person.
What happens at the first appointment? +
The first visit is a full diagnostic evaluation — history, current symptoms, and treatment goals — which is used to build a plan tailored to you, not a standard script applied to everyone.
Is my information kept confidential? +
Yes. All care follows HIPAA privacy standards. Information is shared outside the practice only with your written consent, or as required by law.
